Lemon-scented Tea Tree

Leptospermum petersonii

Lemon-scented tea tree oil mainly comprises citral and citronellal, and has a more appealing "lemony" scent than citronella or lemongrass. Its main uses are in perfumery, cosmetics and aromatherapy products. It is said to have antiseptic, antimicrobial, carminative and sedative properties. It is used in aromatic blends for the oil diffuser to combat coughs and colds and also successfully used as a very effective insect repellent. Since citral may be a significant skin irritant, Lemon-scented tea tree oil should be used in low concentrations (less than 2%).
